A new 500 PLN banknote will enter circulation in Poland on February 10th 2017, reports Radio Poland.

The National Bank Of Poland said the move is a response to market demand and the rising cost of maintaining its strategic cash reserves. Critics of the decision warn that the introduction of the large denomination note may increase black market activity, money laundering, and corruption. The note will feature an image of King Jan III Sobieski, who ruled Poland from 1674 to 1696.
