It is often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I completely agree! No matter what happens, I always eat my morning meals and never skip it. I know many people tend to eat poorly in the morning or totally skip breakfast; either due to laziness or for other reasons. For those of you who are in this category, I have put together a list of places that I have tried and tested and recommend to give it a go. I call it my breakfast of champions list as these places serve up quite a delectable variety.

I work during the week and breakfast for me usually comprises my home-made granola; which I have with some flavored yogurt and topped with some fruits and recently I have been incorporating a green smoothie as well. On weekends however I tend to change things up a bit with a nice warm breakfast which I usually prepare at home. Sometimes I do eat outside and I have a list of places that I tend to revisit every once in a while. Here are my top picks so far and in no particular order. I love the breakfast menu’s at these places and highly recommend to give them a try.

Charlotte Wino i Chleb located on Plac Szepanski, right at the heart of the city center.

It is one of the most popular places that serve French style breakfast with freshly baked Croissants, Baguettes and home-made jams and spreads. The first time I went to Charlotte was actually in Warsaw (Zbawiciela Square) a couple years ago, before I knew there was also one here. As I mentioned; it is quite popular and a great meeting place for friends and family. You can choose to sit outside on the square or inside. It is very spacious and very busy at all times. A highlight for me are the huge ovens situated inside where they bake their own breads and other goodies! The menu is built around the delicious bread and croissants and also includes French classics like Croque Monsieur and creme brulee, gourmet cheese and meat platters. My favorite pick would be the French omelette and white chocolate cheesecake.

Tribeca Coffee, situated on the same square as Charlotte Wino i Chleb is, Tribeca Coffee.

I have been here a couple of times too and really enjoy the place. They offer a variety of breakfast choices. The breakfast is standard and served in a creative ways. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and decor is retro inspired.. It is quiet and service is very good. I usually go for the baguette sandwich rather than choosing something from the standard breakfast menu. I believe the breads are freshly baked on site, but they offer a wide variety of other breakfast options as well. Quite popular is the hot chocolate, I personally never tried it though. What I like is that they also offer some coffee with liqueurs. My favorite pick would be the grilled vegetable baguette and a nice mint tea with fresh mint leaves and honey.

Moment Cafebar and Music in Kazimierz (Estery) on the corner of Plac Nowy.

If you wander a little further to the Kazimierz district off the main square in Rynek, you must visit this place. They have a choice of delicious and healthy breakfast items including a Vegan breakfast set! Some other options on the menu include Polish breakfast, Krakow breakfast, Chia Pudding breakfast etc. Again a lot of options to choose from if you are picky and don’t want the standard English breakfast 😉 Interiors are great and is a great place for chilling out any time of the day. Its not too loud even though it says music on its name. I have had the vegan breakfast here recently as I am all into eating clean and healthy these days and truly enjoyed it. It came with a side of crudités and some dips, healthy whole meal bread and a soy pudding with seasonal fruits and some other healthy stuff.

Plac Nowy 1 an upscale restaurant located on Kazimierz’s Plac Nowy street.

This place looks pricey but trust me its quite contrary and the prices for breakfast are standard to what you would pay anywhere in Krakow. This place is quite new on the map of Krakow and has made a good impression on me. I have been here a couple of times already but only recently tried out the breakfast menu. I had the Fit breakfast which had some spreads including the green pea spread, egg spread with buckwheat popcorn, cottage cheese with basil pesto and rye bread. Breakfast menu includes tea or coffee in the same price at no extra charge! I can say it’s sort of a fine dining place but very affordable. This multi-level restaurant has a beautiful patio with glass roof and a real plant covered wall. Plac Nowy 1 is a place of social, business and occasional meetings. The place can be crowded so either go there early or make a reservation.

Klubokawiarnia Forum Przestrzenie on the banks of the river Wisla it offers a laid back atmosphere for the cities growing love for the slow movement.

Hard to miss if you have been in Krakow for a while. A very popular hang out spot a stones throw away from the Rynek. This is perhaps the most chill out spot I have been to in Krakow. Throngs of people flock here year round even when the temperatures are a minus outside. Live music sets are played by the DJ and the menu offers a wide variety of foods and beverages. Breakfast is served on the menu and includes some healthy choices and a vegan option too. I had the veggie burger and also tried the apple and pear pancakes and washed it all down with some fresh home-made lemonade.

Miedzy Miastowa

And finally, a place I recently visited Miedzy Miastowa close to the city center.

Inspired by the flavors of the world, this is truly a great spot to hang out with friends or family. The interior is spacious and the huge windows offers a bright well lit space. The food is equally amazing! The place can be a bit crowded and you can expect to wait for a table but not too long. The bar is amazing covered in Beefeater bottles, which is quite and interesting concept and design. The atmosphere is kind of like Forum and is worth the visit. The menu is short but offers very good choices. I noticed they also had a special Thai week menu offering a variety of foods and drinks from Thailand. So I assume they must have a new menu for a different city each week. Great place and value for money. I had the waffle and egg with spinach and salmon breakfast, it was yummm! Come here with your friends or family to enjoy a nice relaxing time.

Monday to Friday 09:00 – 24:00 and Saturday Sunday – 10:00 – 24:00

Breakfast served until 12:00 after which you can extend and make it a brunch special 🙂

All places I mentioned have a sort of terrace or garden seating, great food options, a good collection of music and is just a great place to chill out and relax. I have not felt rushed in any of these places and had exceptional service.

Some other notable places of mention Milkbar Tomasza (mentioned on my blog here) which serves a hearty Irish breakfast, Dynia Resto Bar (open on weekdays from 8 am, weekends 9 am!) love the outdoor garden, good for summers, Bococa on Plac Inwalidow- offers healthy green smoothies and other tasty options of food, Kolanko on Ulica Estery offers a buffet style breakfast at a very affordable price.

I have in mind another spot which I have yet to visit and seems to fit in my list of laid back spots for a good eat out which is Bal and seems promising. Also I am sure there are hundreds of other places which serve an awesome breakfast of champions which I might not be aware of and would definitely like to try if recommended. If you have any particular places which you think I should try out do leave a message in the comment section.
