Ever since the success of Adam “Eagle From The Wisła” Małysz, who as a ski jumper became the most decorated Polish athlete of the 2000’s, the country has been gripped by the winter sport. Today, the Polish hopes and victories are with jumper Kamil Stoch, who himself has won the World Cup, Four Hills competition and two individual Olympic gold medals. He continues to fly in fine form.
The 2017 Ski Jumping World Cup has brought 69 athletes including 6 Poles from 18 countries to the base of Krokiew Mountain (1378m) in Zakopane. The world class ski jump named “The Great Krokiew” was opened in 1925 and today has a capacity to hold 40,000 cheering fans.
The Polish jumpers already stepped on the podium by taking second place in the team competition to the delight of the home crowd.
