The 10th annual “Tow The Dragon Across The Wisła’ event took place on Sunday, January 29th, 2017. Dozens of Polish winter swimming enthusiasts called ‘morsy’ meaning ‘walruses’ gathered along the bank beneath the Wawel for a little dip across the freezing river. Under the watchful eye of professional lifeguards and scuba divers, swimmers pulled a smiling dragon the roughly 100m distance from one side of the shore to the other. The goal of the event was to build solidarity among Polish morsy clubs, popularize their winter swimming hobby as well as highlighting the potential of Krakow’s great urban river. This was one of the first of many activities that will activate the waterway over the coming months, as 2017 is “The Year Of The Wisła.”
